FIELD TRIP

ASSEMBLY/RECESS/FIELD TRIP!

A three part series of experiments running February 8-April 27

FIELD TRIP is a centering of the Mad, Queer, Disobedient, and Fugitives of Denver’s iconic artery: Colfax Avenue. Serving as a living archive of East Colfax, FIELD TRIP gathers together a glittering body of transdisciplinary artists to create a constantly evolving experience where audience members become entrenched in the world of the Mad and Colfax as a site of the voices discarded by domesticated culture to roar. FIELD TRIP exists as and highlights the connective tissue of East Colfax and how all of Denver’s lives are intertwined and implicated within it.

Field Trip is made up of three phases: Assembly, Recess, and Field Trip! The Assemblies test and pilot so that the Recesses can play and experiment so Field Trip! can have a tool box for moving together and alone.

FIELD TRIP: Assembly is a matinee theatre experiment that draws on the spectacle and script of Theatre of the Oppressed (Augusto Boal), reality TV, and other folk games through the guidance of our Jokers; creating several worlds of possibility to figure ourselves out of our everyday oppressions. Adopting the mad, the queer, the disobedient, and the fugitive behaviors of East Colfax and the Aurora Cultural Artist District into the independent venue of Manos Sagrados, Assembly invites liberation through play; transforms passive consumption of performance into embodied channels for activations of our agency and disobedient desire.

Assembly will be in session February 8th and March 2nd 2-4pm, and one more date to be determined at Manos Sagrados, tickets are donation based, but must be reserved.

FIELD TRIP: Recess is a two-part party series that serves as an open invitation to meet each each other as we are. Recess encourages radical self-expression and connectedness, nourished by movement and collective transformation. This is a party asking: while the world as we know it falls further into authoritarianism, how do our bodies move in active refusal and disobedience and joy?

Over the course of two evenings, we are free to build worlds within and amongst one another without fear of repercussion. Through installation and sound, we release ourselves from the confines of our built environment into a landscape where our shared and individual agency can shape where we are and what we hear.

Recess will occur on March 29th and April 12th from 7-10 at Manos Sagrados

Taking the principles gained over the course of the previous two phases of experiments, FIELD TRIP! operates within and beyond Manos Sagrados to reaffirm our disobedience and play into the world, specifically on East Colfax. We will explore various pre-determined sites, playing and around businesses with clear prompts while centering our safety. This two day festival of actions will occur April 26th and 27th over the course of the entire weekend.
